Perhaps this is old hat, but as I am new to this site, be aware of the chart, found at http://www.tides4fishing.com/us/california/los-angeles This chart shows which days of the month have the greatest difference between low and high tides--and rates them at "no fish", "one fish", "two fishes", and "three fishes". Caught my first surf striped on a Monterey Bay beach at dawn right before low tide Weighed 12 lbs and was 28 inches long I used a Lamiglas x11 8 1/2 foot medium steelhead spinning rod with a Penn Battle 2 2500 reel spooled with power pro 15 lb I was using a saltwater fly rig on my spinning rod.
