    Homemade Sinker Mold

Here is my personal Homemade Sinker mold that I have now probably made over 12 dozen sinkers in. Pretty simple. Made with Unibit.

And they come out like this. If you try and make your own. Be careful and use eye protection and gloves and leather shoes. BE CAREFUL!!

I use a galvanized coat hanger - pretty easy peasy.

    Until next time,

That is great! Thanks for sharing. Almost the same style as well. I went with the 2x4's on the side, hinged 1 side then drilled the other. I was doing alot of river and lake fishing so i have smaller sizes as well. Then when they are dry, i open up the end and out they pop. Works so well. It was great when I worked for a dealership. I would save all the old lead from the wheel weights. Now its not so easy to come by. Ill try to snap a picture this evening.

What do you use to melt the lead in?? Do you use a facemask for the fumes??

I will take pictures next time. I just use a electric hot plate and a cast iron skillet .. small. I got them at a swapmeet for around 15 bucks for both.

I have a setup OUTSIDE my garage when I do it. So there are really no fumes when it has heated. I don't stand around it when it is heating up and burning off the paper from the tire weights.

So I don't need a mask. I would never do it inside.. NEVER.

I do use Welding gloves when pouring or handling, I also use a FULL Plastic mask, Just encase. No issues yet but I like to play it over - safety & Leather boots and I am VERY CAREFUL!

Good luck if you try it.

BTW you need to clear off the dross from the top. And underneath you have Pretty - Pretty sinker material.

    Thats Cool

so there are no spikes on those? Do they bury well? My pyramid sinkers just don't stay put?

I like the way you can just pop that open and they pop out. I have to "open" my mold and tap the "spikes" out ..upside down to get mine out. They come out pretty easy.

Just wondering if yours are with out spikes Mike?

    Thanks for the photos.

I've never used spikes or thought about it until I saw yours. I like it!
Ii think I will drill holes through and make it able to add the spikes. They do end up on the beach more than I like.

LOL! Luckily they come with my shop uniforms. Cintas uses them. But any metal coat hanger will work and hold up for a longtime.

Just be careful trying to make them and when you do you will find that you have a lot more surf fishing "Buddies"

I always thought you would have to pour lead into a metal mold. Hmm. Now I have to go meddle in the garage

    cheers,
