    Channel Islands RockfishTrip

The wife and I decided to try something different this weekend. We've never been out for rockfish before so we booked a 3/4 day trip on the Erna B out of Channel Islands Sportfishing in Oxnard. We heard they have been killing the rockfish lately but. On the way out there we heard there was going to be a high surf advisory and the wind was going to be up. So the Captain decided to skip the normal fishing grounds and took us out to Anacapa Island to shelter us from the weather. We didn't quite get a limit for the entire boat but everyone caught fish.

If you have never done one of these trips, I would highly suggest getting out. It was a blast. We got on a limited load boat (The extra $10 is well worth it). The captain and deck hands were extremely professional, very helpful and really personable. We were really lucky that everyone else on the boat was alot of fun and we all had alot of laughs.

Beautiful Vermilion rockfish, and super RED color (aka "red snapper" in California) ...

You are very fortunate to get to fish at CISCO (Channel Islands Sportfishing). When I used to be rich and famous, I used to fish there most of the time. Love fishing on the overnight boats that go to San Miguel Island Lings and Reds, and those full day charter boats that fish Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa for some BIG Calicos .. but those were the days.

    Is that Jackpot fish ?

Fiskhkiller, This was the first fish on the boat. It was my first rockfish so I had no idea that it was a good size fish until everyone else started bringing them up. 1 guy caught a lingcod that was bigger. He got the jackpot.

We're doing up some ceviche and fish tacos tonight.
